Envirothon Program

Sault Ste. Marie Envirothon Team - 2010

Sault Ste. Marie High School's Envirothon team competed in the state competition which ran from May 12th through May 14th.
High school teams from across the state converged on the Leelanau Outdoor Center in Maple City on May 12 to compete in the Michigan Envirothon.  The students comprise one of 25 teams that qualified for Michigan Envirothon by competing in regional competitions earlier this spring.
The competition's overall winner will represent Michigan in the Canon North American Envirothon at the University of California in Merced.  The Canon Envirothon includes teams from across the United States and Canada.  Members of the top three Michigan Envirothon teams will receive scholarship awards from Michigan State University.

The team was composed of students from Sault Area High School.  Advisors  were SAHS teacher, Lynn Dunham; Johanna Nugent, Civil Engineer from the District; and, Amanda Bosak, aquatic biologist with the Bay Mills Indian Community.  The Envirothon theme for 2008 was “Recreational Impacts on Natural Resources” The state competition was held at Lake Superior State University.  Our team finished fourth out of 23 teams.
